Rajendra Kumar Jalan

With an engineering background, began his leather industry journey 47 years ago, driven by passion, commitment, and vision. He credits his success to a dedicated, hardworking team. Emphasizing innovation, he focuses on creating sustainable products to minimize environmental impact. Under his guidance, the company expanded globally, exporting to the U.S., Latin America, Europe, South Korea, and Australia. His commitment to excellence has earned him numerous accolades.

Education

Rajendra Kumar Jalan earned his Chemical Engineering degree from Harcourt Butler Technological University in 1974. He completed a one-year Leather Manufacturing course at CLRI in 1975 and spent nearly 18 months in practical training and internships at various European leather chemical companies.

Work

In 1974, he joined a Kanpur-based leather exporter, modernizing manufacturing and establishing an Effluent Treatment Plant by the early 1980s. He later set up a footwear manufacturing facility and expanded into the U.S. market before returning to India as Chief Executive. In 1996, he founded his own footwear unit for the American market, growing steadily since 2000 with exports to the U.S.A., Latin America, Europe, South Korea, and Australia, achieving an annual turnover of 250 Crores. His leadership includes serving on the Central Regional Committee from 2002, becoming a Central Board Member in 2006, and Regional Chairman in 2008 and 2010.

Achievement

He has held key roles, including membership in the Governing Council of FDDI and Board of Governors of CFTI, Agra. He has been an Academic Council Member at MMU, Gorakhpur, and HBTU, Kanpur, and is involved in Kanpur's NGO sector, focusing on infrastructure and industrial development. Since 2017, he has served as a Research Council Member at the Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai. He was Vice Chairman of CLE, contributing to the XII Five Year Plan, and chaired the Committee on Environment & Sustainable Development (2015-2017), promoting sustainable practices and industry growth.

Contributions

Business and Industry Contributions
Initiated the establishment of a 240-acre Leather Park in Ramaipur, Kanpur Nagar, hosting nearly 195 tanneries and leather goods factories.
Societal Contributions and Recognition
Served as a District Volunteer during the second wave of COVID-19 and was honored as a COVID Warrior in October 2021.
Infrastructure and Environmental Initiatives
The Leather Park project includes essential infrastructure such as an Effluent Treatment Plant and waste disposal facilities to protect the River Ganges.
Leadership and Legacy
Multiple tenures as Chairman of the Council for Leather Export underscore his leadership and influence in the industry.
